It’s everywhere, and it has already been there : the Adidas Superstar sneaker. I remember it like it was yesterday when I was hunting them down, oh well, actually it was yesterday and around 14 years ago as well. At that time it was so in-style to wear the Superstar sneaker with some very, very thick blue or green or black laces that were pretty hard to come by as well. As I was only 13 years old at that time, my dad was driving me to every single sports and shoe store to find that pair of trainer in my size.
Honestly I never thought this shoe would become that popular again and I was wondering how Adidas achieved this. Well, obviously you just have to take that piece you want to put on the number 1 radar of every fashionista off the racks, therefor reduce the availability , send some freebies to the most-famous bloggers and stars, and make sure they’re on everyone’s social media-feed, and voilà you created a total have-to-have piece. Sounds easy doesn’t it?
And isn’t it crazy how so many designers copied this simple design and just attached a hefty price tag to it? Isabel Marant, I’m talking to you sister. But Pierre Hardy and Karl Lagerfeld are equally guilty on this, just like Common Projects and Givenchy. But then again it’s the shoe of the season (and of the previous one) so I can’t really blame them for wanting a piece of cake on this one.
As for me I still prefer the good old classic. How about you? Did you jump on the Superstar train already? In case you didn’t, head over to Luisaviaroma, they still have many sizes left
