Today I want to address a topic that’s been crossing my mind a sprinkling of times and this prompted questions that have to be replied. So this is about so-called blogger events and why you won’t see me at any of these any more here in Luxembourg. Don’t worry this will not turn into a brat’s hate-speech, I’m just expressing my own, personal opinion and if you disagree with it, that’s fine with me as well, if not to mention, I don’t care if you disagree with me 😉
Last year that one or other event popped up where several bloggers were invited to and this included store openings, exclusive launches, special blogger-days and other stuff. And I was overly excited to finally meet some like-minded people that I could exchange myself with and have a real good time. It was thrilling and refreshing that bloggers finally got paid attention to and it actually felt a bit rewarding as well. So I went to a few of these events, I think around three or four, and, sadly, came to the conclusion that they’re absolutely not what I was expecting, not to say, they were plain boring. I realized that it’s always the same, lame, high-snobiety clientele, drinking champagne in plastic glasses and being superficial as can be while taking good care to be seen by everybody: Look at me,I’m here and you’re not! Could I identify myself with these people? No I couldn’t.
While at these happenings, there’s of course a few people I met that I appreciate and that I connected with, but I seriously wasn’t feeling the rest of them. Believe me when I say that I can smell an affected hello from a mile away. I’m also pretty good at reading somebody’s face and body-language ,so don’t try to fool me on this because you’ll lose. Spending my free time with two-faced people? No way Jose.
Besides that, I also started wondering why in the world would I bore my readers with an article about a store or an event that didn’t even interest me to the fullest? Why bother going to an opening if I know that I’ll never shop there because it’s either not my style, I don’t feel linked to the brand or it’s out of my budget ?Wouldn’t that be dishonest?I guess it actually would be. And it’s awful to see that so many have this go-ahead-and-sell-your-soul-to-the-devil-type of attitude.
I started blogging around 4 years ago for the sake of fun and I’m still doing it for fun. If that one or other opportunity arises, I sometimes agree with it if I can relate myself to the brand, their offer and their concept. Everything that’s not my cup of tea is getting rejected. And it’s a lot, trust me. I just don’t feel like I need to attend any type of boring press-event and hop on every train only to call myself a blogger.
Honestly I’ve also never been a person to go with the crowd. Blogging is a thing on it’s own and seeing people act all desperate for invites and goodie-bags only to show them off on Instagram later, just ruins the whole idea behind blogging for me to be honest. I’m here to share my style, my passion, ideas and thoughts and that’s it. I don’t care about goodies, champagne, freebies, fame whatsoever, but what I do care about is enjoying time with people I like, that share the same point of views and that are fun to be with.
If I offended anyone with this, then I’m sorry but I’m not sorry, I’m just being honest and speaking up my mind With that being said I wish you a pleasant day!
